US homeowners who are looking for financial assistance to pay for home renovations can apply for these grants. Recipients can used these grants to acquire equipment and supplies, and pay and administrative costs. Eligible properties include homes, housing units, rental properties and co-ops. These grants generally cover all project costs but some programs can require recipients to secure funding from outside sources to pay a percentage of the expenses. Here is a list of three (3) available grants.
Very Low-Income Housing Repair Program
The Very Low-Income Housing Repair program is run by the Department of Agriculture (USDA). These grants are used by homeowners to make renovations and repairs to their homes after the removal of health and safety hazards. Grant amount can reach up to $7,500. Homeowners must be at least 62 years of age or older and cannot afford to repay loans. Recipients cannot sell their homes for three (3) years or the grant program can seek recoupment of funds. Those who don’t meet the requirement can apply for low interest loans from this program to make renovations to their homes.
